algeh: Gelatin-free conversation hearts? Do they exist?

So, in my exciting adventures of label-reading, another holiday tradition appears about to bite the dust. Conversation hearts have gelatin in them. Blargh.

Does anyone make gelatin-free ones commercially? If so, where in Portland can I buy them (I didn't see anything at New Seasons)? If not, does anyone have a recipe for something homemade and similar (which would be kind of fun, I guess, since I'd get to somehow inscribe my own messages)?

The SweeTarts brand are gelatin free. I have seen them at Fred Meyer's and Safeway.

Interesting...the Brach's (sp?) ones at New Seasons had gelatin. I'll see which kind WinCo has when I go tomorrow and consider dropping by Fred Meyer if they let me down too. (I will also then bring up this issue with New Seasons, since they're generally a pretty vegan-friendly store, so I'd kind of assumed they were all gelatin-infested if the ones at New Seasons were.) I try not to shop places with club cards, but we'll see if my stupid conversation hearts craving wins out this time (maybe I will also check Thriftway before resorting to the Fredrick Meyer).
